The Hardware Wildlife Education Center in Utah will host its free “Turkey Tales” exhibit on three weekends in November, offering visitors information about wild turkeys and activities for families. The exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 6-8, Nov. 13-15 and Nov. 20-22.

The center is in the Hardware Wildlife Management Area in Cache County’s Blacksmith Fork Canyon. Dozens of wild turkeys live in the area, according to center director Marni Lee, and fall and winter are among the best times to see them. Sightings are not guaranteed, but the exhibit gives visitors a chance to learn about birds that Lee said many Utahns do not know live in the state.

What visitors can do

Along with the exhibit, the center plans hands-on activities, a free craft project and story times every hour. A walking path near the center will feature enlarged pages from a book, with animal activities for visitors along the route.

The exhibit will cover wild turkey biology and share facts about the birds. Visitors may also see turkeys in the wildlife management area or along the drive to the center, though the center cautions that it cannot promise a sighting. Lee said dozens of turkeys live in the area.

Dates and location

The exhibit’s three scheduled runs are Nov. 6-8, Nov. 13-15 and Nov. 20-22, with visiting hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The center is about 15 miles from Hyrum on state Route 101.

For details about the exhibit or November activities, visitors can call the Hardware Wildlife Education Center at 435-753-6206. The center opens seasonally for fall exhibits and during winter while wagon rides and elk viewing are taking place.
