Microsoft has just made its largest education investment ever, introducing a range of new offerings designed to empower students and educators to create the world of tomorrow. This groundbreaking initiative includes the launch of STEM Saturdays at Microsoft Store locations across the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, and Australia, as well as the introduction of innovative products and programs aimed at transforming the educational experience.

STEM Saturdays, which will kick off this Saturday, May 6, will bring pop-up classrooms to Microsoft Store locations and offer hands-on experiences for students and educators. One of the exciting activities includes building a sensor that measures the flexion and extension of a finger to learn about the anatomy of a human hand. This initiative is part of Microsoft’s commitment to providing free programs year-round that empower students and educators in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

In addition to STEM Saturdays, Microsoft has announced a series of new offerings for education. These include:

Windows 10 S: This new Windows experience, inspired by students and teachers, is streamlined for security and superior performance. When paired with Intune for Education, Windows 10 S will enable schools to efficiently manage computers in the classroom at a lower cost.

Surface Laptop: Powered by Windows 10 S, the Surface Laptop is designed for college students seeking a perfect balance of performance, portability, and beautiful design. Starting at $999 USD, the Surface Laptop is now available for pre-order and will be generally available starting on June 15th.

New Windows 10 S partner devices: Microsoft’s partners, including Acer, ASUS, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Samsung, and Toshiba, offer a range of new Windows 10 PCs for Education starting at $189. These partners will also introduce PCs with Windows 10 S this summer, ranging from premium devices to affordable options starting at $229.

Microsoft Teams in the classroom: In addition to Office 365 for Education, Microsoft Teams is a digital hub that promotes active learning and helps students develop communication and collaboration skills essential for future success.

Code Builder for Minecraft: Education Edition: This new in-game feature for “Minecraft: Education Edition” encourages educators and students to learn coding to explore, create, and play in the full 3D Minecraft world.

This significant investment in education underscores Microsoft’s commitment to providing innovative solutions that enhance learning and prepare students for the challenges of the digital age. Terry Myerson, EVP of the Windows & Devices Group at Microsoft, shared more details about these new offerings in a recent blog post.
