Stanford University in Pictures

22/10/2026 20 photos

Stanford University is in Stanford, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area. Its campus is known for arcades, sandstone buildings, gardens, and open spaces. The Main Quad is a good place to begin: its arcades and central space bring together some of the university’s best-known architecture, including Memorial Church. Hoover Tower offers another perspective, with campus views that help show how the grounds fit together.

To explore beyond the central buildings, follow campus paths and broad pedestrian routes through gardens and courtyards. Look for shaded spots and open areas where students gather or study outdoors. The Oval and the Dish area offer a change of scenery, with open approaches and walking routes. The campus’s mix of landmark buildings, paths, and landscaped spaces makes it rewarding to explore on foot; allow time to wander between the Main Quad and quieter corners.
